Best Online Sports Betting Tips

  • Nov. 20th, 2009 at 10:44 AM
Betting is one of the most lucrative and fastest ways to make money if you have the brains and courage for it. Sure, it involves a lot of financial risk but if you know when and where to bet, you can make serious big bucks at it. It has always been an exciting hobby for people. Unlike most people would generally think, betting do not happen in casinos only anymore. Internet is the new casino. If you want to make money at sports betting, follow these simple tips to use for online betting:

1. Research – Just like everything else, you have to do your research before you bet at any sports, like checking out sports news. Be it tennis, basketball or baseball-its only wise to put your money at it if you are a fanatic, or have a good grasp at latest sports info for that particular sport. Read news reports, statistical and analytical reviews and professional predictions on who is going to win and place your bet accordingly. Look up sports journals, magazines and websites dedicated for the purpose and one the basis of all the info you gather, make the decision on who you want to bet on. However, be sure that if you are doing your research online, you are using credible information. If there are particular authors writing about your sport, consult them as well as their opinion is widespread and widely acclaimed. Such information will help you place the best bets and make good fortune in this business.

2. Amount- Do not in any case spend all your money on one single game. Even the highly experienced betters don’t do that. If you are a beginner, start out slow and build up from there. Remember, with winning matches, the chance to win is 50-50. You can win but you can lose as well. Leave some buffer space so you don’t go bankrupt if the lucks turn their backs on you. Stay sensible and do not push your luck too hard. If you continue to win bets, stop at highest level you think you’re at and leave it there. Debt sucks so stay away from it as much as you can.

3. Bet on YOUR Sport- There’s usually one sport we are all inclined towards. Try starting out with that. If you had been collecting baseball cards all your life and have all the ins and outs info on how what player and what team is doing, start off with Baseball. Do not, in any case, start out with some sport that is not your best area of knowledge. One of the main reasons of failure in this game is people follow where most of the money is. Don’t do that. Follow where your comfort zone is, and then expand from there.
Use online assistance systems if you need to, to help you placing bets and winning at sports betting.

COMMON SOCCER POSITIONS

  • Sep. 25th, 2009 at 11:27 AM
Soccer has eleven positions per team, but a coach can choose according to the formation he uses, to only employ ten of the positions and have two people playing one position.    This is usually so for the defensive midfield position .There are categories when it comes to the positions in soccer  (1) goalkeeper (2)defenders (3) midfielders  and (4) strikers

The goalkeeper is the only one allowed to play the ball with his hands and that is only in his eighteen yard area. The goalkeeper is the last line of defense so he has to protect his goal especially when his defenders have been beaten. The goalkeeper wears a different type of shirt to rest of his teammates that is so that the referee can easily identify him. The goalkeeper has to wear gloves on his hands so as to cushion himself from the vicious shots that come his way. the goalkeeper usually stay as close to the gate  as possible but is allowed to move inside but this is not advisable as it leaves the team vulnerable at the back.

DEFENDERS

THE LEFTBACK and THE RIGHT BACK ,play on the opposite side of the field but their play is quiet similar5 as there are both defenders who guard the wings .The two players in these positions usually take most of the throw ins in they team and have the license to venture forward in attack for most teams. When defending corners these defenders both occupy the posts if the corner is for the opposition. These two are sometimes referred to as wingback

THE CENTRE BACKS

These two defenders are the backbone of the team’s defense as they do most of the defending of the opposition’s attacks mainly the attacks through the center and act as cover for the wingback if they venture forward and are caught out in the opposition attacks when the team gets a corner the center backs usually venture into the opposition penalty area trying to score, this is so because most center backs are tall.

MIDFIELDERS

This is the engine room of the team as these players who occupy the midfield have to be mobile as much as possible. The midfielders in a team help in both defense and attack for the team. The first of the midfielders is the DEFENCESIVE MIDFIELDER his job in the team is to shield the back four from opposition attack he does this by trying to break up the opposition’s play as much as possible. Then there is a RIGHT SIDED MIDFIELDER he is mostly an attacking midfielder who plays on the right side of the middle of the park and has to droop to mark the left back of the opposition if the team loses possession. Then there is the LEFT SIDED MIDFIELDER he plays on the left side of the middle of the park but due to the mobility of the midfielder they are continuously changing positions. There is the midfielder who plays BEHIND STRIKERS his job is to supply strikers with opportunities to score, this is the play maker of the team, he makes the am play. The midfielder is assisted by the other midfielders to give strikers balls to score for the team .these midfielder is also expected to score a few goals himself. Midfielders usually take most of the teams free kicks and corners and most midfielders are specialist free kick takers and occasionally take penalties even though for most teams that is left to the strikers.

STRIKERS

These are the players who are tasked with the job of scoring for the team. They have to convert most of the chances created by the team. Strikers spend most of their time on the field waiting for opportunities to score and they stay with the center backs of the opposition most of the time in the opposition half. Strikers are often called finishers and that term is usually reserved for the best striker in the team who has the ability to finish all the chances or opportunities he gets.

One must be aware that in some teams, not all positions will be employed; it goes according to the coach’s formation and the type of players the team has among other factors.

Taking Your Turn

  • Sep. 1st, 2009 at 11:59 AM
One important rule to playing any poker game that is often forgotten is the rule of Acting in Turn.  With any game, there are certain rules of etiquette and Acting in Turn is one important rule.  When playing poker, it is important to learn information about your opponents’ hands.  This is vital and very helpful information to have.  What does acting in turn mean?  Well, if the words acting in turn are not clear enough to understand, the definition of acting in turn means waiting to play your hand until it is your turn to play.  Each player knows that they cannot make a move until it is their time, but sadly, not every player follows the rule of acting in turn.

One of the most common mistakes that leads a player to act out of turn is when it comes time to fold the hand.  More often than not, when a player sees their opponent place a bet, they tend to announce their fold prior to waiting for it to be their turn to act.  Why is acting in turn important?

1.    The primary objective in poker is to know what your opponent is going to do prior to them actually doing it.  If you act out of turn and fold before your turn is up, this will tip the other players off as to what your actions will be.  This may not seem like a big deal, but acting out of turn can affect the game.

2.    Regardless of what you plan to do, whether you decide to fold, raise, bet, or call, if the person before you places a bet and there are other players that need to act prior to you acting, if you act first it will tip the other players off and have an impact on their next move.  For example, one player places a bet of twenty dollars.  The next player raises the bet to forty dollars.  It is now time for the third player to make a move.  Think of yourself as the fourth player in this game.  If the third player has a good hand and is thinking about calling out on the raise, the third player may be afraid to call the raise since there are two opponents after him.  If you make a move such as folding when it is not your turn then you have just alerted the third player that his chances just got stronger.

3.    You may be asking yourself, “so what if playing out of turn affects another player?”  What you are not realizing is that your move has not only affected the other players, but it has affected you as well.  Here is another example.  Say that you act out of turn and check your hand.  Now the second player places a bet.  Upon his bet, you act out of turn and discard your hand.  You have just given your opponents information that they can use against you.  You have just indicated to your opponents that each time you check you are more than likely holding a weak hand.

So, now you should understand why it is important to play according to your turn.  Playing out of turn and folding innocently may have aggravated the other players but it now has hurt your ability to make money during the game.

Casino (the movie)

  • Jul. 23rd, 2008 at 2:34 PM
I really love movies with Robert DeNiro. He is so perfect in the role as short-tempered, proud scumbag. His characters in The Godfather, Taxi Driver and Goodfellas is just perfect!
But my favourite movie with him is actually Casino.
It is about two guys in the late seventies that are up to no good; they are stealing, gambling, hustling and taking drugs. Naturally their lives would seem grand from outside; elegant ladies, poker playing, nice suits and cool comments to everything. But things are not as great as they would seem.
DeNiro plays Ace, who gets to manager a place called the Tangier Casino. This is entrusted with him by a group of men from the mob, who also throw Ace’s friend Nicky in the deal. He is portrayed by Joe Pesci and is a really unpleasant character, on the verge of being sadistic.
There is also a beautiful woman in the picture: Ginger, played by none other than Sharon Stone. She is a real gold digger and has an ex, “Lester”, that is just bad news. This group makes things worse and worse for each other until things can only end in a catastrophe…

The word “fuck” is used 422 times all in all throughout the film. Of course it was R rated… I think that it is a bit over the top, and there are other parts that could do well with some editing. Some of the scenes are very violent and that doesn’t really add anything to the movie. But the plot is intriguing, the setting is cool and the acting is great.

The film script is made out of the book “Casino”. However, the name of the real casino was “Stardust Resort & Casino”. There is a song called “Stardust” that is actually played three times in the movie!

Sharon Stone won her role over actors like Melanie Griffith, Madonna and Michelle Pfeiffer. James Woods, who plays Lester spends a lot of time gambling in real life as well. More than anything he is playing poker, for example in Celebrity Poker. It is said that when he found out that Martin Scorsese (the director of “Casino”) was thinking of him for a role he called him up and claimed: “Any time, any place, any part, any fee”.
No wonder he got the part!

The movie has that nineties air about it, and that is reason enough for watching it I think. That kind of gambling/thieving-kind of movies aren’t very usual, and this is one of the best!

The history of poker

  • May. 29th, 2008 at 12:34 PM

Almost everyone that I know seems to be playing poker. But even though it is the most common game that I know, pretty much no one knows anything about the history of poker.

The game hasn’t always consisted of the same sets of rules, or even cards. It has been around for longer than one would imagine, and it has derived from the word poca, Irish for pocket.

It has been played in U.S since the early 19th century on the Mississippi river boats, but with a deck consisting of just 20 cards. The purpose of poker then was to guess the other player’s hands and which hand was the best. There actually is a game called Poque, which may be a predecessor to poker. Not too long after the gold rush, the deck started to consist of 32 cards, which of course is the amount of cards that the deck contains today.

It was mainly in the U.S that poker playing was developed. There, they invented lowball and the wild card, and soon, around the ‘60s, poker became a common hobby. Then things started happening fairly rapidly. For example, the World Series of Poker began for the first time. Poker players published strategy books, followed by Hollywood pictures in which poker was played. “Casino”, “Rounders” and other movies about gambling changed the scenery even more.

Now, poker is bigger than ever. The movies about Danny Ocean, with handsome actors such as Brad Pitt and George Clooney, have of course highlighted the casino world, and online poker is exploding. Even our everyday language is affected by the poker lingo. Have you heard phrases as “high roller”, “poker face”, “ace up ones sleeve”, “wild card” and “beats me”, before…? Yes, in poker. And there are more!

Personally I think that poker will become bigger and bigger, considering how popular it already is. I know that I will probably be playing it from time to time my whole life, and so will many of my pals. It has a great combination of social life and brain gymnastics such as good memory, calculating and reading other people. The big place it has taken in Europe and America will be hard for another game or culture to conquer with. And why would they want to? Poker suits everyone!

Atonement

  • May. 29th, 2008 at 12:32 PM

I saw a magnificent movie last night, Atonement. I knew that I would probably end up a bit gloomy after seeing it, but it got worse than I had expected. Actors James McAvoy and Keira Knightley stars as a 1930s version of Romeo and Juliet in a world where circumstances just seize to make matters worse for them. It was very frustrating to see misunderstandings, lies and unfortunate events of different sorts making it impossible for them to get to each other. Also, James McAvoy’s character, Robbie, is such a good person, which doesn’t deserve half of what is coming to him. And neither does his love, so you are sitting on the edge of your seat hoping for a salvation that never arrives. And yes, I know that it is just a made up story, but it is not like things like that don’t happen.

I can recommend the movie, but I suggest that you see it on a day when you feel like you are up to it, otherwise you kind of risk to get depressed for the rest of the evening…

Another movie that I always like to watch is Ocean’s Eleven, and the two movies that follows it. I love that cinematic world of thieving, poker playing and glamour. I think that the actors are great, and it is so much fun to see serious actors to do such a movie. There is no real need for heavy acting, but you have to have a killer timing. Out of the three “Oceans”-movies, I think I like the first most, but the other two are great as well. I love how George Clooney and Brad Pitt talk to each other and that scene where Rusty tries to teach the famous kids to play poker.

But my favourite film is Donnie Darko, with a young Jake Gyllenhaal. I was so affected by it, that even though it has been about four years since I first saw it, I still consider it the best film ever made. I don’t know how many times I have tried to show it to family in friends, in order for them to realize how genius it is. But I have rarely succeeded in this attempt… I’ll keep trying though.

And until then, there are so many new, good movies coming out. I cannot wait for the next James McAvoy-movie!
